The goal of the Equinox project is to be a first class OSGi community and foster the vision of Eclipse as a landscape of bundles. As part of this, it is responsible for developing and delivering the OSGi framework implementation used for all of Eclipse.
Felix is a community effort to implement the OSGi R4 Service Platform, which includes the OSGi framework and standard services, as well as providing and supporting other interesting OSGi-related technologies.
The goal with the Knopflerfish project is to develop and distribute easy to use open source code, build tools and applications, related to the OSGi framework.
Enterprise Service Fabrics
Newton is a distributed component framework supporting Spring components, simple POJOs or wrappers around components with their inter-dependencies defined in a model driven enterprise approach based upon the Service Component Architecture (SCA) standard. Newton makes use of OSGi for wiring up composites within a single JVM and Jini technology for tracking and wiring up dependencies between composites in different JVMs. Newton is the open source foundation for the Infiniflow Distributed Framework developed by Paremus.
Developer Environments
The goal of Spring's OSGi support is to make it as easy as possible to write Spring applications that can be deployed in an OSGi execution environment, and that can take advantage of the services offered by the OSGi framework.
